Editing your book — text, characters, and illustrations

Once a book is generated, it lives in your library and you can edit anything until you're happy.

Editing the text

Click any page of text in the editor and start typing. Changes save automatically.

You can:

Rewrite a sentence or paragraph

Change a character's name on a single page (or globally)

Add or remove a line

Adjust dialogue tone — make it sillier, calmer, more poetic

The text editor uses a child-friendly font and standard formatting. We don't currently support custom fonts or complex layouts inside the editor — books are designed to look consistent end to end.

Regenerating an illustration

Click any illustration to open the regeneration panel. You'll see options to:

Regenerate with the same setup — get a fresh take on the same scene

Add notes — describe what you want differently ("show her smiling," "wider angle," "more colorful background")

Adjust character placement — move characters around or remove one from this specific scene

Each regeneration costs 10 tokens. The new illustration replaces the old one, but you can always regenerate again if it's worse.

Tip: small, specific notes work better than big ones. "Show his hands together" is more reliable than "make it look more excited."

Editing how a character looks

Open the character panel from the editor sidebar. You can adjust:

Hair color and style

Skin tone

Eye color

Glasses, freckles, hearing aids, and other features

Outfit (limited — most outfits are story-specific)

Changes to a character's look apply to new illustration generations going forward. To update existing illustrations to the new look, regenerate them.

Adding or removing characters

In the character panel you can:

Add a new character (sibling, grandparent, pet, friend)

Remove a character you no longer want in the book

Adjust which characters appear on which page

There are limits on how many characters a single book can support, and on how many can appear in one illustration. The editor will tell you if you've hit a limit.

What we can't edit

Some things are baked into the template and can't be changed after generation:

The overall story arc

The illustration style (cartoon vs watercolor vs storybook, etc.)

The book length (number of pages)

The book's language

If you want a different story, style, length, or language, the best option is to start a new book from a different template — your token cost for text is only 1 token, so it's a cheap restart.

Saving and coming back later

The editor saves continuously. You can close the tab and come back days or weeks later — your book will be exactly where you left it. Books stay in your library indefinitely.
